What the numbers include
- Hardware is paid once: the screen, a media player that runs the signage app, and a wall mount.
- Software is charged per screen, every month. Most small-business plans cost $3 to $20 per screen per month, and a few vendors give one to three screens away free.
- Mount and cables default to $60 per screen. That's our rough estimate, not a published average, so change it if you have a real price.
- Not included: sales tax, shipping, electrical work, and paying someone to design your content.
Three ways to keep the cost down
- Use a TV you already own. For one screen that's on during opening hours, a consumer TV is fine. Commercial displays earn their price when screens run 16–24 hours a day.
- Start on a free plan. One to three screens can often run free. Our free plan comparison shows the catch with each.
- Buy the player last. Pick the software first, then buy a player it supports. Some cheap sticks can't install signage apps at all. See our media player guide.
